Default November 30th - Announcement & Discussion Thread

Here it is. First post will stay updated with all the news. Discuss in this thread as well.

Let's remember to try to remain calm and civil I know everyone is excited and all.. But, whatever the news, let's keep it cool and level-headed as possible here. Tolerance level will be a bit on the low side for bad/silly behavior. Thanks for understanding.

First an update on the ASIC issue Jim talked about last week.

The RED engineering team has worked 18 hour days through the holidays and have completed the majority of new layout for scheduled new metal spin. There are still many hurdles to overcome, but the team is making huge leaps forward every day. I wish you guys could see how hard these guys are working. When they are done, we all are going to owe them a round (or six).

SCHEDULE

Given that current delay in the ASIC development, we now see the following schedule.

Remember.. the goal posts move everyday. Sometimes they go backwards, sometimes they leap forward. The two things left are the ASIC and firmware. It took us 2 years to get where we are now, another couple of extra months to get where we need to go for a solid, new feature firmware for the new cameras. That is one of the main reasons for the Tattoo program, which will be extremely limited in numbers.

Tattoo- early 2010
EPIC S35 Stage 2- NAB 2010 (or shortly after)
EPIC S35 Stage 3 & 4- pre-summer 2010

Scarlet 2/3" (both models)- May-June 2010
Scarlet S35- Summer 2010

This presupposes that there are no other major surprises.....

The first 3 ( 50mm, 25mm, 16mm ) are complete. The quality of these optics are incredible. The 6mm and 8mm are due in December. We can project these lenses in Lake Forest, anyone who is interested can email me and come check them out.

BOMB EVF ( PHOTO )

The Bomb EVFs are now out in the wild being tested by some of our beta testers. Production ha begun on mechanicals and the optics. One great new feature that just snuck in in time for production is the Bomb EVF's now have an internal heater, to allow for extremely cold operation. BOMB EVF's will work with all RED CAMERAS, including the RED ONE. Shipping is slated to begin end of January.

RED STATION ( Photo )

RED STATION has also entered pre-production. Each "Module" can work with the base station in a stack of 1 to 4 units, or independently via Firewire 800, 400, ESATA or USB 2.0.

Default Go ahead, make my day

I am actually pretty stoked with my current camera and workflow, but if Red wants to try and win my heart, I will allow myself to be emotionally available for the next two hours.

Let's hear it!

....Red Ray. Hmm. Ok, cool. Let's see the camera specs!

RedRay Sure looks like a piece of kit worth having. Would be better if it was a Computer too.
