If you've only got money for one lens, you'd be well-advised to buy a c-mount zoom (or a Red zoom if they end up making one) rather than a single prime. I think you'll find that having access to only one focal length will be completely unworkable.

Normal for 16mm would be a 25mm lens.
12-120mm would be 25-250mm.
