i agree with david. i wouldn't touch any of those old lenses. they have terrible breathing issues, resolution is poor, etc etc. you are wasting money on brand new technology if you use any of these old lenses. i would buy a super 16 zoom angenieux, cooke, zeiss or the mini red lenses.

You don't need Super 16 lens to cover Scarlet 2/3", but newer 16 lenses are certainly better. That said, if you want interchangeable lenses on a limited budget, the old 16mm lenses are certainly capable of good performance at relatively low cost. You can always upgrade. Just get the old lenses checked before you buy and figure the maintenance required into your costs. This goes for any of them. They are quite good if properly calibrated,

With that said, will a 16mm or B4 lens shoot full 3K? I just have some doubts considering they only shoot 2K on Red One...
And can we assume that the Mini-Primes will have a price compareable to Nikon or Canon lenses? Just wondering.... |

Yes, 2k on a Red One and 3k on a Scarlet cover about the same image size since the pixels on a One are larger: 5.4 micron vs 3.2 micron on Scarlet.

i'm leaning awayfrom the 16mm's too. the more i research the "iffy-er" they seem.
(note to self: begin budgeting for mini red prime set) |

Something like a decent 12-120 should set you back under $2k for purchase and overhaul, not including modifications. A new Canon, Angenieux, HD zoom for B4 starts around $9k and the Canon Cine series for the high end cams or the Angenieuxs run in the mid $20k range. For cine quality gear, the old lenses can be a relative bargain.
I can just imagine setting up a Cine Alta killer with a $2500 camera body and a $30k zoom lens.

You could also look at Zeiss S16 primes, which are beautiful lenses (I have a set for an Arri SR.) or a Zeiss 11-110 Zoom. I have these in PL Mount for the Arri. I think that the 2/3 Scarlet with a PL mount would be a very nice SR replacement.

The 2/3" Scarlet doesn't come with a PL mount though.
